Youth Prevention Action Coalition
The Issue
Underage use of alcohol and other drugs is a causal factor in many serious social issues, including high rates of school failure, preventable injury and death, high-risk sexual activity, unintended pregnancies, alcohol poisoning, and violent crime. To cite two key statistics, 40% of all juvenile custodial arrests in Wyoming involve alcohol, and 28.8% of Wyoming youth had their first drink of alcohol before the age of 13 (Gaps Analysis 2008).
Our Plan
LCCP members are committed to a collaborative approach across multiple agencies that identifies best practices and maximizes support for existing programs. We facilitate the development of affordable programming offering peer and mentoring services, and continue to provide direct intervention, education and counseling—particularly to families with a multigenerational history of poverty. We work with law enforcement and the courts to create alternative adjudication solutions, and fund a Youth Coordinator to serve as a point of contact for all youth-focused organizations in Laramie County.
