Legal Advocacy

The Issue

Legal services are not available to the poor or vulnerable in Wyoming. Many low-income families do not have the resources to resolve civil disputes and cannot seek legal remedy or engage the judicial process. The result is a lack of fairness and equity for low-income families and a compounding of social issues—including eviction, divorce and domestic violence.

Our Plan

LCCP members are securing funds for an assessment study of the unmet legal needs of Laramie County’s low-income population. As part of this process, we are collecting studies from other communities to identify existing strategies and solutions. We will work to publicize locations where low-income families can receive discounted or free legal advice and assistance, and meet with members of the State Bar and local attorneys to increase the awareness of the need for pro bono legal aid.
