We at the LCCP would like to take a moment to commend all our members for making 2009 such a great year. Each of you has played a vital role in the well being of this community. Your willingness to collaborate, desire to serve, and ability to remain undaunted in the face of adversity have helped the Partnership become a vital tool for human services in Laramie County.
Now, as we move forward into 2010, we see changes already taking place. The most prominent of these being the passing of the torch from long-time president, Phyllis Sherard, to our new leader, Chris Wiederspahn. As much as we may hate to see Phyllis step down, we are grateful for the years of dedication and leadership she has given to us. We also have no doubt that our new President, Chris Wiederspahn, will continue where Phyllis has left off. Chris’s leadership and guidance are sure to bring yet another prosperous year to the Laramie County Community Partnership and all its members.
Here are some things to look forward to in 2010:
Connections Corner
With the combined leadership of Phyllis Sherard, Chris Wiederspahn and Stephanie Pyle, Connections Corner is making preparations for its own 501c3 status. The Circles Movement continues its role as the organizations primary focus, and it is thriving. By fostering mutual relationships of support across economic lines, this movement is doing great work in the removal of social barriers and the development of resources for those in poverty. As they head out on their own, we greatly anticipate the woderful things to come from this organization and are proud of the progress that they have made in such a short time.
For information on how you can become part of the Circles Movement please contact Stephanie Pyle or Eloise Saltzgaver at: 307.634.3333
2-1-1
The 2-1-1 Action Team has made an incredible amount of headway over the past year. The team’s goal of creating a call system that would provide callers with information regarding health and human services in Laramie County is quickly approaching. Funding for the program has been provided by our local United Way as well as Homeland Security. Wyoming Senator, Mike Enzi, has also expressed his own support of a 2-1-1 call system in the state. The technical aspects of the program are currently being developed under the leadership of Cynthia Pomeroy, and implication of the system is expected to begin soon.
If you would like more information on the 2-1-1 Call System, please contact Alfrieda Gonzales at: 307.635.5100
Housing
The Housing Action Team is currently gathering data in order to find ways in which they can best help the community. The listening sessions that they held throughout October have provided them with an overall picture of the community’s housing needs, and we look forward to great things from them in the near future.
The Housing Team is currently administering surveys. If you are a human service provider who would like to assist them, please contact Sister Ruth Ann Hehn at: 307.256.9010
Healthier Laramie County
With their pending application for $4.6 million in ARRA funding, Healthier Laramie County has the potential to make great changes in the community this year. If the application is approved, the funds would go to an extensive smoking cessation program. Although she has stepped down as President, we are happy to see that Phyllis Sherard will continue to serve in her position as chair of this division.
Phyllis Sherard can be contacted at: 307.633.3575
Youth Programs Action Coaltion
Last but certainly not least is YPAC. 2010 looks promising for the Action Team led by Dr. Jiri Danczik. Their afterschool community planning program is moving into the new year with an exciting amount of momentum. By bringing together both school districts as well as community programs such as the YMCA and Boys & Girls Club, YPAC plans to implement a series of community wide after school programs in Cheyenne. These programs will reach out to children during the critical after-school hours, when statistics prove that kids are most likely to participate in destructive or unlawful behavior. By providing them with a positive outlet, YPAC hopes to create a safer community and more promising future for the children of Cheyenne in 2010.
If you would like to be part of this effort to create more afterschool programs in Cheyenne, please call Doug Mercado at: 307.635.5100

I would like to apologize to anyone who has been trying to find the Gaps Analysis for the past few days. We’re trying to figure out the best way to present it and had to take it off the site for awhile. The formatting is not done yet, but we have put it back up. You can find it under the “Documents” section in Resources. In the future, we will let you know ahead of time before we make any changes like this.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Wyoming Access to Justice Commission’s public hearing on the 27th. It went very well, and the WAJC was able to learn a lot about where their help is most needed. As many of you know, lack of legal access is a very real problem in our community, and the WAJC is eager to get started on fixing it.
For those of you who were unable to attend, you can listen to the audio of the meeting here.
