Strategic After School Planning Meeting

You are invited to participate in the First Comprehensive After School Strategic Planning Meeting hosted by the Laramie County Community Partnership on September 9, 2009 at the Laramie County Public Library Cottonwood Room from 11:30AM until 2:00PM. This is a meeting of both potential Partners (not for profit youth serving organizations) and Stakeholders (parents,caregivers, teachers, businesses and local government bodies). The Partnership has been committed to youth issues and After School programming for the last 8 years.  Through the Wyoming Department of Education’s 21st Century fund, we have supported Best Practice efforts in elementary, middle school and High Schools. We have partnered with the Cheyenne Family YMCA, City of Cheyenne Youth Alternatives, Wyoming Waves, LCSD#1 CAN and arts groups to bring the best programming available to the community. We are now committed, with your support, to launch a planning process to develop comprehensive afterschool programs to all children in the district K-8th.  Lunch will be served and attachments to this invitation include an agenda, participation guidelines and a summary of potential goals. Each organization may send up to Three representatives. Grantsmanship Training

Starting Over:  Making the Most of Your Money

The UW Cooperative Extension will be presenting its Starting Overfinancial literacy classes on the second Thursday of every month.

These classes will be focused on building skills in personal finance. The course covers four components of basic financial literacy: Budget Development, Money Management Skills, Wise Use of Credit, Consumer Assistance and Protection. This course meets the financial education requirement of the Bankruptcy Abuse and Prevention Act of 2005, which is mandatory to exit bankruptcy.

The Alzheimer’s Project

Alzheimer’s is the second most-feared illness in America, following cancer, and may affect as many as five million Americans. While there is no cure for the disease, THE ALZHEIMER’S PROJECT shows there is now genuine reason to be optimistic about the future. Multi-platform series takes a close look at groundbreaking discoveries made by the country’s leading scientists, as well as the effects of this debilitating and fatal disease both on those with Alzheimer’s and on their families.

Wellness Fair

Warren Federal Credit Union has partnered with the Laramie County Library System to host a free Wellness Fair at the Laramie County Library later this month.
Warren FCU is Wyoming’s largest Credit Union with branches in Cheyenne, Laramie and Wellington, CO.  Spearheading the effort is Warren FCU’s Marketing and Business Development Department.
The event is designed to provide valuable information from subject matter experts.  Topics include: Essentials to Financial Wellness; Loss of Income: Dollar Stretching Strategies;
Protecting you and your children from Internet predators’; Living in an E-commerce world, safe and secure. 
The fair is free and the community is invited to attend. The event is on Saturday, February 20th starting at 9:30AM with A thru Z Document Destruction onsite to shred your documents, compliments of Warren FCU. 
Seminars will start at 9:30AM until 1:30PM at the Laramie County Library, located at 2200 Pioneer Avenue. Refreshments will be served and all attendees will be entered to win a $100 Warren FCU Visa® Gift Card. No purchase is necessary to enter.

Parent Leadership Training Institute

The Wyoming Department of Health will begin the first class of its Parent Leadership Teaching Institute program on February 20th at the Cheyenne YMCA. 

These classes are designed to bolster family involvement and leadership skills in the community.  The curriculum, provided by Connecticut’s Parent Leadership and Training Institute,is an evidence based program that has shown positive outcomes in several regions of the country. 

If you or someone you know are interested in becoming more involved in your community, the Partnership strongly encourages you to attend these classes.

Needs Inc. Annex

Needs, Inc. is proud to announce the opening of its Pine Bluffs Annex on April 3rd. By adding this new office, the crisis center that provides families in need with food, clothing and much more will be able to serve an even broader population.

Cover the Uninsured Week

Cover the Uninsured Week 2010, the eighth annual campaign to raise public awareness about the 46 million U.S. residents without health insurance, will be held March 14-20.

Participants in the campaign, led by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, help enroll eligible uninsured children and adults in low-cost or free health coverage programs through events held in towns and cities across the country. Walk In My Shoes

Wyoming Coalition for the Homeless’ annual fund raiser will be held June 12th, 2010. Registration begins at 8am and walk starts at 9am.
Everything starts at the WCH main building at 907 Logan Avenue.
Ghost Walkers welcome. (Ghost Walkers are those who are busy that day or who cannot walk 2 miles but want to help)  There will be music, fun, food, door prizes, t-shirts and other events with the walk. 
Dogs and children are welcome—dogs must be on a leash.
